Before changing browsers: back up your local records

By SteadyScale editorial · Updated October 16, 2026

A new browser is a different place

Your tracker records belong to this website origin in the current browser. Signing into a different browser or opening a new domain does not pull them from our server, because there is no server weight history to retrieve. Plan the transfer before clearing the original storage.

Choose the right export

JSON is the structured backup format used for restoring records and supported settings in the tool. CSV is a readable table for your own use. Treat both as sensitive files: choose a private location and check that the download completed. Exporting does not erase the original records or create an automatic cloud backup.

Preview a restore before committing

In Backup & settings, choose the JSON file and inspect the preview. Existing-date conflicts need an explicit decision. Merge keeps the applicable existing records while handling selected conflicts; replace changes the managed data to the import’s records and settings. Read the screen before confirming either operation. Invalid files are rejected before a write is committed.

Verify before you clean up

Check the restored dates, count and display unit in the destination browser. Keep the original backup until you are satisfied. Clearing local tool data requires two confirmations, but it cannot remove previously downloaded files, browser backups or copies held elsewhere. Remove those separately when appropriate. Never send your weight backup as a general support message.
